Look Up

Look Up is a spoken word for the “online” generation. Written, performed and directed by Gary Turk, it is an extremely important life lesson for our youth.  Children are growing up in a world where they don’t play outside or communicate with their friends. It seems today everything is done via text message or over the internet. It’s heartbreaking… I feel guilty myself. We need to spread this message before it’s too late.

David and Goliath - Casting

A world-wide search for the actor to play the lead character of 'David' for the big-budget movie, 'David and Goliath' is taking the casting directors to London, Rome, Los Angeles, New York, and even Berlin.

"We're leaving no stone unturned," says Director Tim Chey. "We want the very best actor to play young David."

'David and Goliath' commences shooting next month in Morocco, Tunisia, and Algeria. "We've narrowed our list to 12 incredible actors," says a casting spokesperson. "We had over 1,500 submissions."

The film looks at one of the most powerful and beloved Bible stories of all time and will focus on the early life of David who fought against the Philistine giant, Goliath against all odds.

"We've had lots of name actors submit, but we want an unknown actor," Chey continues. "We want the audience to really get into the character of who David was and not be tainted by any familiarity."

Chey is no stranger to casting in foreign territories. He produced the $20 million film, 'Carry Me Home' that took his casting directors around the world for an unknown actor to play John Newton. The film stars Cuba Gooding, Jr., Sharon Leal, William Sadler, and unknown Bernard Forcher. It was shot on the Amistad. 'Carry Me Home,' is slated to open nationwide in December 2014. You can see the trailer at CarryMeHomeMovie.net.

'David and Goliath' comes at a perfect time. Hollywood is embracing faith-based films as of late and the audiences are growing at a record pace according to reports.

Will 'David and Goliath' stay Biblically correct? "Absolutely," says Chey. "Hollywood should embrace true Believers to tell Biblical stories."

'David and Goliath' is set for an early-2015 nation-wide theater release. "We will have the P&A for a 1,500 theater release," says Chey.

Kendrick's Next Film - UPDATE

The Kendricks will start filming their next film in June in Charlotte, North Carolina. It doesn't have a title yet, but the theme is prayer. The Kendricks will use their production to train more Christian filmmakers.

"We're getting film students from Christian colleges all over the Southeast, that we're using as interns. So we're mixing them in with the professionals we have as a crew."

Alex Kendrick says he and his brother are rooting for Christian films, saying glorifying the Lord is the important goal, not making millions of dollars.

Kendrick will be featured in another Christian movie hitting the theaters May 9th, called Mom's Night Out.  It's a comedy, and many of the actors and crew worked on Courageous.

Veil of Tears - DVD

I had the opportunity to see this documentary at the Christian Worldview Film Festival. This is a powerful film, about the work being done to help abused women in India. I highly recommend this film...but not for the whole family.
You can read the Dove review here.

Synopsis:

"Veil of Tears" is a documentary film that tells the untold story of millions of women in India who are culturally persecuted for no other reason than the fact that they are women. However, despite the centuries of oppression, there are those who are reaching out and trying to change the culture towards women, from the inside out. Filmed across of the stunning nation of India, in some of the most remote tribal villages in the world today, this is a journey where few outsiders have gone before.
