Alex and Stephen Kendrick discuss the next film by the Kendrick Brothers!
Sony’s Tristar Pictures has slotted faith-based drama War Room, the fifth film from Alex and Stephen Kendrick (Fireproof, Courageous) for an August 28 premiere. The film follows Tony and Elizabeth Jordan, a middle-class couple who seemingly have it all – great jobs, a beautiful daughter, their dream home. But appearances can be deceiving. In reality, the Jordan’s marriage has become a war zone and their daughter is collateral damage. With the help of Miss Clara, an older, wiser woman, Elizabeth discovers she can start fighting for her family instead of against them. Through a newly energized faith, Elizabeth and Tony’s real enemy doesn’t have a prayer.
The film features New York Times bestselling author and Bible teacher Priscilla Shirer in her film debut. Alex Kendrick also appears in the film, along with T.C. Stallings (Courageous), comedian Michael Jr., and newcomers Karen Abercrombie and Alena Pitts.
“War Room is the ideal addition to our August slate, following in the footsteps of last year’s hit, Heaven is For Real, which had a $12 million budget and grossed more than $100 million,” said Rory Bruer, President, Worldwide Distribution for Sony Pictures. “We are pleased to be distributing the Kendrick Brothers’ next film, which will be the perfect programming for families seeking a wholesome and inspiring Summer movie.”
Over the past six months, the Kendrick Brothers team has been busy in production on Movie Five (our working title). Many of you have been keeping up with our progress through our Facebook page or on the kendrickbrothers.com site. For others, here’s a quick update:
After the release of Courageous, we began praying about producing a fifth feature film. Last summer, while serving at a ministry event, God confirmed with Alex and Stephen the direction for a new storyline. Research and writing began and continued until the screenplay was completed in the spring of 2014.
As we prayed, God opened the doors for production in the Charlotte, North Carolina area over June and July. Multiple business owners and churches offered support and encouragement. We set up a production office, conducted online and live casting sessions, and scouted shooting locations. In answer to prayer, the needed partners and funding were provided.
It was exciting to watch God "make straight our paths" as we trusted in Him. A cast of strong, Christian actors was assembled. Some were new faces to us; others you may recognize from our previous films. Still others were "discovered" out of the ministry world. The Lord also provided an excellent, God-honoring crew of 85 hard-working filmmakers including 20 interns and production assistants who arrived eager to learn and serve. Over 80 local churches in the Concord/Charlotte area graciously stepped up to support the effort. From shuttle buses and parking lots to potluck dinners, these congregations worked in unity across denominational lines to provide facilities and volunteers.
At 10:00 AM on June 10th, the first "Action!" was called in the beautiful kitchen of a historic Concord, North Carolina home - provided by a local pastor. The new production launched full throttle. Over the next two months, we experienced powerful team devotions and prayer times, growing friendships, and a cast who kept hitting their marks on camera. After thirty shooting days, "That's a wrap!" was shouted after an all-nighter in a downtown Charlotte restaurant. The team paused to thank God for what He had done.
Currently, we are editing the scenes, and the exciting phase of post-production is underway. Release of the movie title will come soon, but in the meantime, please pray for us and this movie. We need God’s continued blessing, favor, protection, and guidance to cover this entire process - down to the last frame. Our goal is to release this movie in the fall of 2015, and we’re asking God to bless and reign over everything related to it, and for Him to receive all honor and glory for what has and will be accomplished.
Watch for updates on our kendrickbrothers.com site and Facebook page as we continue in post-production. And if you haven't seen this, here’s a great press release about the movie: http://www.prweb.com/releases/2014/07/prweb12054075.htm

Alex and Stephen Kendrick—creators of hit faith films FIREPROOF and COURAGEOUS—have just wrapped principal photography on their anticipated fifth movie—a family drama with humor and heart focused on the power of prayer and its primary role in the Christian life.
“We made this film to inspire, challenge and motivate families to fight the right kind of battles and to fight them the best way possible,” said Director and Co-Writer Alex Kendrick. “We have plans for everything—careers, finances, health. But what about a strategy for prayer for our lives, our spouses and our children?”
The Kendricks’ fifth film is their first project independent of Sherwood Pictures, the movie ministry of Sherwood Baptist Church. Pre-production began in 2013 with the blessing and support of the Sherwood family, where they remain associate pastors.
“Sherwood is still our church home, and we’re here talking to you now only because Michael Catt, our pastor, took a risk, supported us and let us make a movie,” Alex Kendrick said.
Provident Films and AFFIRM Films partnered with the brothers to distribute their fifth movie.
The film features New York Times best-selling author and Bible teacher Priscilla Shirer in her film debut.
“I'm honored to be working with the Kendricks, and to be part of a story that encourages people to pray,” Shirer said. “Prayer is the most powerful weapon the church has to unlock the activity of heaven on earth.”
Filmed in and around Charlotte, N.C., this is the first Kendrick Brothers project shot outside their hometown of Albany, Ga. It drew more than 1,000 volunteers from 85 churches in the Charlotte area who stepped up and reached across denominational lines to support the production.
In addition to Shirer, the cast of the Kendricks’ latest movie includes T.C. Stallings (COURAGEOUS), Alex Kendrick (MOMS’ NIGHT OUT, COURAGEOUS), Robert Amaya (MOMS’ NIGHT OUT, COURAGEOUS) and veteran actress Karen Abercrombie (MY NAME IS PAUL, MOUNTAIN TOP). It introduces film newcomers comedian Michael Jr. as Michael and Alena Pitts as Danielle, and features a cameo by renown speaker Beth Moore in her first acting role.
“It's time for fierceness in prayer, and I cannot think of a more crucial message for a movie to convey,” Moore said. “God waits to see a generation that will take Him at His Word. Let's be that generation.”
“We’re going after something here that could radically improve our culture, and moviegoers will experience it within the context of an inspiring and emotional story,” Producer and Co-Writer Stephen Kendrick said. “Prayer is so much more than people realize. It can powerfully affect every problem and need in our lives if engaged from within a vibrant relationship with God.”
SYNOPSIS
A family-friendly drama, the film is about learning to fight the right kinds of battles. Filled with humor, wit and heart, it follows Tony and Elizabeth Jordan, a middle-class couple, and their daughter, Danielle, as they struggle through personal, marital and spiritual issues. Their lives are forever changed after Elizabeth meets an elderly widow who helps her develop a secret prayer room in her home.
PRAYER IS FREQUENT . . . AT HOME
Each Kendrick Brothers film explores a subject deeply important to Christians and the Christian life: personal integrity in FLYWHEEL, resilient faith in FACING THE GIANTS, loving marriages in FIREPROOF and heroic parenting in COURAGEOUS.
This film’s focus on prayer strategically highlights a subject of interest to a majority of Americans. According to a National Opinion Research Center survey on frequency of prayer, nearly 90 percent of Americans claim to pray regularly. Some 60 percent say they pray at least once a day—for Christians, that number grows to 84 percent, according to a U.S. News and Beliefnet online poll. Almost 80 percent of American Christians say they pray most often at home.

The Kendrick brothers are now shifting into the production of Movie 5. Over the last five months we set up a production office, conducted online and live casting sessions, locked in our crew, and scouted the needed locations for the story. Every location is visually rich and completely fresh to us. God has provided an amazing cast of strong believers. Some are new faces to us, others you will recognize from our previous films, and there are a few surprises that many will recognize from the Christian ministry world. The Lord has also provided an excellent crew of Christian filmmakers and film-school interns. Many of them have been praying for God to open the door for them to work on a movie project that honors Him. Our production office is humming along. Lots of buzz. Tons of progress every day. We are very grateful that multiple pastors and churches are working together and surrounding this effort in prayer.
Filming will begin next week. We are asking for your prayer support as we enter into this crucial time. The production schedule is set for June and July this summer. Release of the movie title will come soon, but in the meantime, please pray! We need God’s continued blessing, favor, protection, and guidance to cover this entire process - down to the smallest detail. We know the enemy is at work to confuse, confound and attack, but God is clearly blessing and reigning over these efforts!
If you want to sign up as a Prayer Warrior for Movie 5, you will receive periodic updates concerning specific ways to pray as production progresses.

The Kendricks will start filming their next film in June in Charlotte, North Carolina. It doesn't have a title yet, but the theme is prayer. The Kendricks will use their production to train more Christian filmmakers.
"We're getting film students from Christian colleges all over the Southeast, that we're using as interns. So we're mixing them in with the professionals we have as a crew."
Alex Kendrick says he and his brother are rooting for Christian films, saying glorifying the Lord is the important goal, not making millions of dollars.
Kendrick will be featured in another Christian movie hitting the theaters May 9th, called Mom's Night Out. It's a comedy, and many of the actors and crew worked on Courageous.

Kendrick Brothers Productions is excited to announce that we will be casting for our fifth feature film throughout the month of April. While some potential key cast members have already been contacted, most positions are yet to be filled. It is not too late for talented Christian actors and filmmakers to submit an application.
Between now and May 1st, our team will be going through the 1,300+ actor and crew applications submitted on our website and contacting those specific individuals we believe are a potential fit for an acting role or crew position. We are grateful for the number of people from across the nation who have applied online and look forward to building another outstanding movie team. If you have submitted an application, we ask that you be patient with the process and not contact us to see if you have been selected.
The production schedule is currently set for 6 weeks of shooting later this year. While we are not ready to reveal the movie title, we are very excited about the theme, unique storyline, and journey the characters will experience throughout the film.
We ask that you pray that God continues to carry our team throughout the pre-production process and clearly reveals His specific choice for each role and position. He has always been faithful in the past, and we are asking for His continued guidance and provision now. We are not merely looking for talent and willingness, but for people who will become ambassadors for the message of this movie.
Join us in asking God to be glorified throughout this process and through the finished product. Thank you so much for your ongoing support.
All Allyson and her friends want is a peaceful, grown-up evening of dinner and conversation . . . a long-needed moms' night out. But in order to enjoy high heels, adult conversation and food not served in a paper bag, they need their husbands to watch the kids for three hours—what could go wrong? MOMS' NIGHT OUT is an endearing true-to-life family comedy that celebrates the beautiful mess called parenting.
Coming to theaters on May 9, get ready to see YOUR life on the big screen.
But don't worry … it's a comedy!
"After months of prayer, we believe the Lord has given us clear direction concerning the plot for our next movie. Even as Fireproof focused on marriage and Courageous highlighted fatherhood, this next movie will unpack another pivotal issue. We have been inspired with the storyline and are excited to cast and shoot this movie. Lots of emotion. Lots of humor. Lots of truth.
Our current plan is to complete the script this year, shoot and edit in 2014, and then promote and release the movie in 2015. As we continue to develop the story, we are asking for prayer. The script has to be solid and on target. The Lord has clearly carried us in the past, and we recognize our desperate need for His guidance and grace now. Please pray for His inspiration, creativity, and discernment as we develop the characters and craft the scenes. Pray for His blessing, favor, protection, and power to be on this project from beginning to end. And ask Him to strategically use this movie to transform countless lives, restore broken families, and greatly impact the nations for His glory. Thank you in advance!"
