Movie Monday - COURAGEOUS

"Four men, one calling: To serve and protect. As law enforcement officers, Adam Mitchell, Nathan Hayes, David Thomson, and Shane Fuller are confident and focused. Yet at the end of the day, they face a challenge that none of them are truly prepared to tackle: fatherhood.

While they consistently give their best on the job, good enough seems to be all they can muster as dads. But they're quickly discovering that their standard is missing the mark.

When tragedy hits home, these men are left wrestling with their hopes, their fears, their faith, and their fathering. Can a newfound urgency help these dads draw closer to God ... and to their children?"

2012 SAICFF Semi-Finalists

"Two hundred films were submitted for review to this years SAICFF.

This year we have added a new category called Great Commission which centers on films that focus on the discipleship of the nations, especially as it relates to the issue of international Gospel outreach.

Again, we are pleased to feature a category in defense of the biblical account of origins called Creation. All films that qualify for Great Commission are also included in our documentary category. Creation films may include documentaries or film shorts."
~ Vision Forum

I'm pleased to announce that Captivated, the feature length documentary that I worked on this past year, has been selected as a semi-finalist and will be shown at the festival! The Editing & Post Production of “Courageous”

Here are a couple of articles that I found to be very insightful and that I highly recommend especially for filmmakers! I really enjoyed the info about the post production process from editing to film prints! Both articles are very in depth and instead of re-posting them here in their entirety I have instead included links for you to check out. To get you started, here is a short excerpt:

Articles By: Steve Hullfish

"This article and the follow up will discuss the entire workflow of getting the R3D files from the camera, archiving them, transcoding them, organizing the files, making editing decisions with the director, and eventually, delivering the edit and raw files to PostWorks in NY and following the entire on-line post-production workflow getting the RED files and a Final Cut Pro 7 sequence up on the big screen in over 1,200 theaters nationwide.

Sherwood Pictures’ last theatrical release was the number one independent movie of 2008, “Fireproof,” which beat out “Slumdog Millionaire” for the honor. That film focused on a firefighter struggling with his heroic image at the firehouse compared to the image his wife had of him at home. At its heart, it was a movie about saving a marriage. For “Courageous”, the heroes are cops who are courageous on the streets, but need to show that honor begins at home, as they struggle with their roles as fathers when their beat is done.

My role started after principal photography had been completed. Director Alex Kendrick had planned on editing the feature himself, along with the help of on-set editor, Bill Ebel, who was also an editor on “Fireproof.” However, the previous Sherwood Pictures releases had been edited from approximately 40 hours of footage each, but when the final day of shooting on “Courageous” was done,  there were over 130 hours of raw footage coming from multiple RED cameras. (The production took place in the spring and summer of 2010, so it was shot Red One, pre-MX.) Getting through 130 hours of footage to deliver a first cut in just a couple months would be impossible for one or two people. Just watching 130 hours of footage would take a month..."

Mighty Abraham

SYNOPSIS

1872. America provides the backdrop for the story of an unlikely bond between Katherine, a recently widowed mail order bride from Scotland, and Abraham, a humble African-American boy born of a slave woman.

The death of Katherine's husband finds her alone on a land that has produced only hardship the twelve years she has called it home. She now finds this home threatened by Jones, a cruel land developer who has no respect for the law or for Katherine's rights to her own land. Thus begins his quest to force Katherine from her land, and all that she has left in the world.

All seems hopeless until Katherine discovers young Abraham harbors a secret that could save them from Jones' devices. Abraham's strong faith in God's word has manifested physically in him as a supernatural ability. Is a super hero birthed in this humble man named Abraham? His supernatural feats are from what super hero legends were birthed. The speed at which he can run surpasses that of any human seen, as does his ability to leap to the top of trees. Could he be a miracle from God to save Katherine?

From the humblest of men will arise a hero to confound the wise.

Mighty faith. Mighty courage. Mighty Abraham.

Beyond the Mask - New Year

January is a very exciting month for the Beyond the Mask project. Our main objectives are to (1) secure investments for the production budget, and (2) complete the final draft of the screenplay. Depending on how fundraising progresses, we will make final plans to begin shooting late spring or early fall of this year. Currently, Chad (in Champagne, IL) and Aaron (north of Detroit, MI) are meeting with potential investors in their areas; later in the month they will be visiting other major cities, including Colorado Springs and Washington DC, as we look to connect with people who will partner with us to create this Christ-centered action-adventure film.

More picture and details to follow soon! Please keep us in your prayers.

Journey Reunion Highlight Video

A while back I posted about a graphics design package I did for the Journey Reunion weekend conference that our family helped put together in 2011.

Recently I was able to complete the highlight video for the Reunion! Thoughts, questions, and critiques are welcome.

In case any filmmakers are wondering, this was shot with the Canon 60D and edited in Adobe Premiere.
