Beyond the Mask - Set Construction

A team has begun working on a couple of the major sets for the Burns upcoming feature film, Beyond the Mask!

The crew has been busy building two awesome sets. The first is a Philadelphia city street which is being erected inside one of the pole barns. Although it is only a two-dimensional façade, the windows and doors are designed to be fully functional. The other set is a Delaware River dockyard.

Burns Family Studios has begun work on their next Christian feature film titled, Beyond the Mask! Check out this exciting Pre-Production trailer!

Synopsis

This story is an action-fused historic adventure, set in the international turmoil of the mid 1770's. Running for his life, an East India Company assassin buried his past in a quiet English village, assuming the mantle of an Anglican priest. But this disguise won't last for long when a woman he loves and a war he no longer wants force him to confront the question of who he really is. In the face of a looming global conflict, he discovers for himself the meaning and source of true justification and freedom.

Right now they need a little help raising some funds to build a major set for the project, and you can help by donating just $20!

About the Campaign

Right now, we are asking you to consider joining our team by voting for Beyond the Mask with a $20 donation. Through this Kickstarter campaign, we are planning to raise funding to purchase the materials we can’t scavenge for Beyond the Masks’ most important set – a full-scale, live-action 18th century cityscape. But, more importantly, through this campaign we are hoping to find a thousand voices to join with ours as we approach investors (the ‘men in hats’) about making a project like this come to life. On Pendragon we were lead by the Lord to tell a story about vision - embracing God's call on your life no matter the odds or opposition.  Over the past year, the Lord has grown in our hearts a new theme; the 'next project' will explore the life changing idea that true freedom and ultimate satisfaction come only through a relationship with Jesus Christ.

The story is shaping up to be fun, intelligent, and compelling. Count on action and espionage, a touch of comedy, romance, and of course, high adventure: a period piece with global scope.

This production will once again require the mobilization of a very large crew and volunteer network. We are looking forward to working with old friends and making new ones as we move closer to pre-production. But for now, what we need is your support in prayer.

Vision. Pray that we would be faithful to the vision that God has given us.

Message. Please pray that God would inspire and move us to the ideas that would be most compelling.

Team. Please pray that God would send the right individuals along in His timing, and that we would work in unity with each other.

REVIEW: "Pendragon: Journey Behind the Scenes"

It is popular these days for the DVD of a movie to include at least one BTS (Behind the Scenes) documentary. However, it is very rare, especially in Christian filmmaking, to release a BTS book to go along with a film. Well, Burns Family Studios has done just that, and the book is incredible!

"Pendragon: Journey Behind the Scenes" is a 100-page book that takes you on an adventure to explore the making of this epic Christian film. Exclusive stories from the cast, inspiring interviews with the crew, and hundreds of newly released pictures have been carefully woven together to present an experience that will leave you feeling like you have been on the set and a part of the team! One of my favorite parts is the “Pendragon Fun Fact” sections sprinkled throughout the book.

How did you get so many people to help with the movie? Were you ever worried that you wouldn’t be able to finish? Where did you find the locations? Which sets did you build? How were the costumes made? Who made the swords and weapons? What was it like to be an extra on set? Why does Nick play the bad guy? How did you make that much fire? Are you going to make any more movies?

The answers to these questions are full of humor, scary accidents, friendship, innovation, and, of course, God’s provision. It is a lot of fun to read stories of the creativity and resourcefulness that were required to shoot an epic film on a shoe-string budget.

-Interviews with actors: Aaron, Marilyn, and Nick.
-Building the fort, creating the market, filming the opening night attack, details on the Sword Dance scene, and fun during the funeral scene.
-In-depth interviews with the costume, makeup, and weapon departments. (These are really neat.)

-Building the team, writing the music, working with horses, running a camera (Yours Truly was interviewed for this section), creating visual effects, and supervising the sound design.

Pendragon: Journey Behind the Scenes COMING SOON!

Pendragon - Rolling once again...

"After a period of inactivity, the Burns Family Studios film crew is back in action. Not as much action as say, an epic sword fight, but filming again all the same. Last weekend, Aaron traveled down to ‘Studio B’ in Saint Louis to work on an electronic press kit with Chad and Nick."
