Heartland CDs 2011

Film news is a little slow right now so I thought I would post about one of my recent graphic design projects. These are the CD covers I did this year for Heartland Baptist Bible College.

Digital Juice StackTraxx RETIREMENT

Stack Traxx are amazing, and I'm sad to see them going away, my hope is that this means that they will be replacing them with something better! If you haven't ever checked them out, I would HIGHLY encourage that you do so before they are gone! Personally I have 8 of the ST albums and have used them quite a bit in my projects, I have found ST to be the most versatile buy-out music for the cheapest price. At least check out some of the demos on their website...what can it hurt!

  • 100% Royalty-Free! Buy once and use in all your projects.
  • Layered Tracks. Each songs with 4-7 remixable tracks.
  • Compatible with any computer based non-linear or linear editor with a DVD-ROM drive.
  • High Quality! Recorded natively at 44.1 khz, 16 bit.
  • Keyword Searchable! Using our FREE Juicer 3 Software.
- Check out the full StackTraxx library here!

The Process Of Film Scoring

Learning from the professionals in any industry is of utmost value, that is, if you are serious about your craft. This is no different for film composers. While it may be relatively simple to add just any score to a film, the intricacies covered in Richard Davis’ presentation at the New Mexico Filmmakers Conference in 2008 have to be understood, assimilated and utilized in order to take any score to the next level.

Richard Davis teaches at the Berklee College of Music and at this presentation addresses the basic process and timelines, MIDI mockups, temp tracks, and a requirement for the composer not only to be a musician, but step into the mind frame of a filmmaker as well in order to understand the needs and process of telling the story through the score.

Thanks to composer Jurgen Beck for posting these on his website.

NEW CD! - For His Glory

This is one the latest graphic design projects that I've been working on, a new CD from Shekinah Springs Studio! Caleb and Daniel Morris have been working on this CD for quite some time and it's finally at the duplicator. These guys wrote the music score for the award winning documentary Joel's Journey and also were a big part of the music team for the award winning feature film, Pendragon: Sword of His Father.

You can check out a couple of music samples here:

Homeschool Dropouts: The Score

For anyone who is interested in learning more about composing music for films, I highly recommend checking out Ben Botkin's Blog! He has a lot of good articles and music samples.

"Homeschool Dropouts is a documentary, so most of the music I wrote for it plays under constant dialogue and keeps a very subdued and submissive role– almost exaggeratedly so, as most of the music is little more than ambient or atmospheric. Though I developed a couple different melodic motifs and musical textures that I could weave throughout the film, there was never really a place for a big, developed symphonic approach to melody or movement–most of the music would be pretty uninteresting or boring if you heard it on its own." ~Ben Botkin

You can listen to samples, see the trailer for the movie and read the rest of the article here!
